Germany and England were both defeated in the Nations League

For two sides that were thought to be World Cup contenders, it was a difficult night. England was eliminated from the top division of the Nations League after losing 1-0 away to Italy, and Germany suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hungary at home.

Giacomo Raspadori handled a ball over the top from Leonardo Bonucci and scored from the edge of the box in between three England defenders to give Italy, which didn't make it to the World Cup in Qatar, a lead at the San Siro.

In the repeat of the European Championship final, which the Azzurri won last season, Italy fullback Federico Dimarco also struck the post.

The night's most spectacular goal was scored by Hungary captain dám Szalai, who did it 17 minutes into the game after a corner.

The ball flew over goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen's head and inside the far post because Germany captain Thomas Müller, who was manning Szalai, didn't appear to anticipate that Szalai would attempt a shot on goal with his back to the net from a steep angle.

Group 3's top scorers are Hungary (10 points), Italy (8 points), Germany (6 points), and England (2).

Italy will go to Hungary on Monday, and England will host Germany for the last round of group games. The group champion secures a place in the finals in June.
